I apply my expertise from art, science, design, and engineering to immersive user experiences creating innovative systems for media and storytelling. With over 25 years of experience in this field, I have designed and programmed interactive projects that range from digital archives and multimedia performances to large-scale installations and generative art.
I have a strong background in research, teaching, and leadership in academic settings. I have established and led multiple research labs, contributed to several books, taught programming and strategic design to graduate students, and provided senior guidance and strategy for a new school of arts, technology, and emerging communication. I enjoy collaborating with diverse teams, exploring new technologies, and hacking things together in robust ways, thinking across disciplines, and asking “why do you want to do that?” I have experience in CTO-type guidance for academic organizations ranging from 10 faculty and 20+ students to ~100 faculty and 2000 students. I build new, creative, technological organizations from the ground up and teach across a diverse array of emergent subjects such as programming for artists, physical computing, data visualization, sustainable systems, and strategic design. I work across a range of environments such as industrial research labs, academic administration, education, theaters, galleries, startups, and studios. As Featured In
